Opportunities for Writers Online

If you are looking for a way of making money online, and you like to write, there are many opportunities for writers on the internet.  Depending on your writing experience, and the type of writing you like to do, you can find contract jobs, freelance jobs, and employment writing online, as well as creating your own sites and blogs.  There are also several reputable writing community websites that pay writers through affiliate sales and ad impressions.  The most lucrative writing online is non-fiction, however fiction writing also has its place, and if you are creative, you will find ways to sell your fiction.

If you are a new writer, or just getting your feet wet, then one of the best places to start writing is Hubpages.  They have a very organized learning center, that will teach you the basics of what you need to know to write online, as well as interactive HubCamps that you can attend in person or view live video.  The staff is excellent and responsive, and the community is also very helpful.  For more help, you can visit Pro Hubpages, a Hubpages learning site.

For more experienced writers, there are several sites that contract to writers.  Many are have restrictive rules, but pay well.  Demand Studios, BrightHub, and Constant Content are a few of them, but you can find many more.  Each contract site will have different application requirements, and is looking for a specific style of writing.  It is best to investigate these websites before you apply.

If you wish to write content for websites, you need to do a regular job search.  Many websites contract out their content writing because it takes a specialized type of writing, keyword rich and search engine optimized to rank well on the search engines.  To get a job like this, a writer needs to have experience, and writing samples to show the contractor.

Many authors find that writing ebooks is a way for them to earn a living.  If you have an area of expertise, you can write either full feature length, or short ebooks on your niche.  Ebooks are sold through several websites including Amazon, and have relatively no cost, so that your profit margin is quite high.  Other popular sites for selling ebooks are Clickbank, and E-Junkie.  In order to sell ebooks that you write, you do have to learn where to sell and how to market them after they are written, or you can hire someone to do that for you.

One of the most well worn paths to success online writing is to create your own website or blog.  Numerous people have become known through their own blogs, one of the most successful is Darren Rowse of ProBlogger.  Blogs and website earn money indirectly through sales, and advertising that accompanies the main writing of the blog.  The ads are usually related to the blog topic, and can be either affiliate marketing ads, or regular paid advertising that comes after the blog has gained a large regular readership.

Whatever path you choose to follow in your online writing career, it is best to take it slowly until you are comfortable online, and have all the skills necessary to succeed.  It is not a job that takes a rocket scientist, but indeed a job that a good writer, who can adapt and learn can do.

What is Memoir?

What is memoir? Have you heard or read a riveting story from someone’s life? That’s memoir. It’s framing one portion of your life, unlike autobiography that deals with your whole life. You might want to write about your military life, your childhood, teen years, your relationship with your best friend through the years, or an illness or addiction. You are the editor of your life. You get to choose.

The memoir genre has undergone many changes over the years. If you have hopes of mainstream publication, you need to utilize all the tools available to writers. Even if you just plan to self-publish and give your memoir to family and close friends, the way you write it should keep respect for the readers’ intelligence and wants in mind.

Today’s readers want a memoir that reads like a fiction novel. Don’t get me wrong, they still want the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. They just want it written in a way that captures them from the beginning and doesn’t let go until the end.

Today’s reader is smart. They don’t have to be “told” every little thing. They like to think for themselves and draw conclusions based on the descriptions and storytelling style of the author.

It’s not as tall an order as you might think. Using the same tools and tips fiction writers use and the basic elements of a story, you  too can write a captivating story.

There are numerous books, articles and classes available for anyone wishing to write a memoir. The best advice for budding memoirists is to find your story and write it.

“I Love Everyone” from The Debt Collector: Are People Who Love Everyone Greedy?

default I Love Everyone from The Debt Collector: Are People Who Love Everyone Greedy?

Love is the most powerful emotion in the world. When we truly love someone, we would do anything to spare them pain. We feel their suffering as if it were our own. We rejoice when they do.  Their happiness is our happiness. We would share with them our last morsel of bread and even die for them, if that’s what it took to save their lives. But such a strong emotion isn’t something casual, isn’t a common thing that we feel for every passing stranger, and some people never even get to experience it at all. It is as rare as it is powerful, and those who have felt it would never trade it for anything else.

In the song “I Love Everyone” from the musical The Debt Collector, Siren the social worker claims to feel this ultimate emotion for everyone and anyone. Aside from the question of whether it is possible to love everyone, ask yourself also what someone who professes to love everyone is hoping to get in return. Siren seems to think that everyone loves her, and if reciprocity in love were the norm, rather than the exception, what a great  boon it would be for any one person to be loved by so many!

The Debt Collector features music by Daniel Carter. The book and lyrics are by me: Aya Katz. In the video embedded above the part of Siren is sung by Christa Reaves. The accompaniment is by Emily Shaffer. If your theater company is looking for a libertarian musical, please contact us.
